Chapter 270: Let Them Stay
Chapter 270: Let Them Stay
"You can have the stone house, but don’t even think about taking my female." The male Gray Wolf Beast quickly hid the female Long-eared Rabbit behind him.
The male Black Bear Beasts sneered, not taking the male Gray Wolf Beast seriously at all.
"If you won’t give her to us, we’ll tear you to pieces."
Without another word, one of the Black Bear Beasts charged at the Gray Wolf Beast.
They weren’t stupid. They didn’t provoke Feiyan at the same time, planning instead to subdue the Gray Wolf Beast first before ganging up on Feiyan.
"These Black Bear Beasts have all awakened their beast souls," Qiao Xixi said, frowning as she watched them.
Feiyan nodded. "Yeah. 3-star and 4-star."
Their star-levels weren’t as high as Feiyan’s, but there were more of them. She worried Feiyan would be at a disadvantage, so she took out a few Bubble Fruits from her dimensional space.
"Wandering Beasts like them will only become a dangerous liability to the clan. Let’s get rid of them."
Feiyan nodded and had Qiao Xixi move a safe distance away.
"I’ll teach them a lesson."
With a furious roar, Feiyan leaped into the fray.
The Black Bear Beasts hadn’t expected Feiyan to take the initiative, but since he was here, they would just kill him too.
However, Feiyan’s star-level was higher, and the Black Bear Beasts couldn’t gain the upper hand at all.
After being sent flying by one of Feiyan’s palm strikes, a Black Bear Beast’s gaze snapped toward Qiao Xixi and Qiao Qiao.
A vicious glint flashed in his eyes as he scrambled to his feet and charged at them.
Seeing the Black Bear Beast charge toward Qiao Xixi, the female Long-eared Rabbit was so frightened she covered her mouth.
Qiao Xixi, however, was perfectly calm. As the Black Bear Beast rushed over, she deftly threw the Bubble Fruit in her hand at him.
A loud BOOM stunned the other Black Bear Beasts.
"They’re tough! Let’s go!"
Feiyan sneered. "Trying to run? In your dreams!"
Feiyan blocked their escape route and, together with the Gray Wolf Beast, finished off the Black Bear Beasts one by one.
After confirming all the Black Bear Beasts were dead, Feiyan came up to Qiao Xixi. His fluffy fox tail was puffed up so proudly it nearly touched the sky, and he had the goofy look of someone thinking, ’I’m the greatest in the world.’
"Xixi, was I amazing or what?"
Qiao Xixi nodded very seriously. "Absolutely amazing!"
The fox tail wagged even more happily.
"Qiaoqiao, was Father amazing?"
Qiao Qiao gave him a thumbs-up. "Awesome!"
His fox-like eyes crinkled into smiling slits.
Qiao Qiao’s little brow furrowed. ’Oh well,’ she thought, ’I guess I have to spoil my own father!’
The male Gray Wolf Beast limped over to Qiao Xixi and the others. "Thank you, Clan Leader," he said gratefully. "Thank you all for saving us. It was those male Black Bear Beasts. Before you came, Clan Leader, they’d already hurt many of the Wandering Beasts who joined the clan. Now that they’re dead, we can finally live here in peace."
After speaking, he looked at Qiao Xixi again, this time with apprehension. "Clan Leader, please accept us. I... I can help the clan hunt. I can do many things."
"Can you gather all the Wandering Beasts who have settled here and bring them to me?"
"Yes, yes! I’ll go right now."
As if afraid Qiao Xixi would be displeased, the male Gray Wolf Beast forced himself to run at top speed on his injured leg, terrified of being thought too slow.
Watching him go, Qiao Xixi felt a wave of emotion, reminded of the difficult days when she and her cubs struggled to survive.
Soon, the male Gray Wolf Beast returned with many Wandering Beasts. There were far more of them than she had imagined—at least a hundred.
"Clan Leader, please let us stay in the clan! Even though we’re Wandering Beasts, we will never cause trouble. We just want to live here peacefully."
"That’s right, Clan Leader! Please take us in."
Before Qiao Xixi could speak, Feiyan lifted her up and sat her on his shoulders.
Male beastmen were generally tall, and he couldn’t bear to see Xixi’s presence diminished in front of them.
Qiao Xixi hadn’t expected Feiyan to be so thoughtful.
With her viewpoint elevated, Qiao Xixi’s voice became louder as well.
"I know what you’re all thinking. You’ve also seen the clan’s current situation. If you want to stay, you’ll have to help rebuild it and truly integrate into clan life, no longer just fending for yourselves as you did in the past."
Qiao Xixi paused before continuing, "The food you hunt will need to be shared with other beastmen; you won’t be able to keep it all for yourselves. Living here means being part of a community and following the clan’s rules. If you can’t do that, you can leave now."
"We’re willing to follow the rules."
"Clan Leader, we can do it! Please let us stay."
Qiao Xixi nodded. "Alright. Tomorrow morning, each family is to send one beastman to wait outside the inner city. I have something to discuss with everyone."
"Thank you, Clan Leader! Thank you, Clan Leader!"
It was already afternoon by the time Qiao Xixi and her group left.
Afraid they were tired, Feiyan changed into his beast form and carried the mother and daughter back to the inner city on his back.
"Matriarch, you’re back."
After waking up from their naps, Sangqi and the others had continued helping around the inner city. Compared to yesterday, they had already cleaned up most of what needed to be done.
When Qiao Xixi returned to her house, she saw Mo Yan and Xiya playing with the little tiger cub.
"Matriarch."
Seeing Qiao Xixi return, Xiya eagerly ran over to hug her. The little tiger cub looked at Qiao Xixi, her big eyes suddenly turning red, and her little mouth puckered as she burst into tears.
Qiao Xixi had never seen her like this before, and her heart melted. After giving Xiya a quick kiss, she walked over and picked the little one up.
"What’s wrong? Why are you crying as soon as Mother gets back?"
The little tiger cub clung to Qiao Xixi, sobbing uncontrollably as if she had suffered a great injustice.
Mo Yan looked helpless. "An’an was perfectly happy just now. She isn’t hurt."
Xiya nodded as well. "Little sister was all smiles a moment ago. She only started crying when she saw you, Matriarch."
Hearing the commotion, Jin Ling practically flew into the house from the courtyard. When he saw Qiao Xixi holding and comforting the cub, his expression softened.
"Did you miss your mother?"
After watching her cry for a bit, Qiao Xixi saw her start to rub her eyes and said softly, "She must be sleepy. She was having so much fun with her older siblings that she fought off her nap."
Once he was sure there was nothing wrong with the cub, Jin Ling let out a faint sigh of relief. He took the cub, whose eyes were already fluttering shut, from Qiao Xixi’s arms. "I’ll take her. You go rest for a bit."
Before Qiao Xixi could refuse, the cub groggily grabbed Jin Ling’s hand and settled into his arms.
That night, Qiao Xixi explained her thoughts and plans.
"There are still many abandoned cubs in the clan that need to be raised. But our manpower is limited right now. No matter how powerful you all are, it would be difficult to provide for so many cubs at once. That’s why I plan to let those Wandering Beasts stay."
Sunxiao and the others had no objections. Among the Wandering Beasts were many strong, young male beastmen, which was exactly what they needed.
Just as the family was discussing their upcoming plans, a contingent of beastmen arrived outside the clan’s territory.
