Chapter 123 Helpful
Above the gray fog, inside the magnificent and ancient palace, Klein, sitting at the head of the mottled long table, let out a long breath after severing the connection with the prayer light and slumped into a high-backed chair.
Beneath the grayish-white mist, the flesh and blood on his bare hands, head, and neck resembled living worms, constantly wriggling and turning.
About half a minute later, the writhing flesh on his body calmed down and his body returned to normal.
"Phew, thank goodness we're above the gray fog. If this were in reality, I probably would have gone completely insane."
"However, if I weren't above the gray fog, I wouldn't normally be able to see the gaze cast by the 'True Creator' on Cyril."
"Is this the true oppressive feeling of facing the 'real creator'? It's far more damaging than the pain I suffered when I saw him through divination before."
"If I hadn't already experienced this multiple times and become somewhat accustomed to it, I probably would have witnessed Mr. 'Fool' exploding above the gray fog."
"However, it wasn't without its gains..."
Klein raised his hand and gently rubbed his forehead, bittersweetly recalling the occult knowledge he had gained after exchanging glances with the "True Creator":

"The benefits of making eye contact with the evil god are really great, making me want to take another look at the 'true creator'."
Unfortunately, they definitely won't cooperate.
"This is the most complete extraordinary pathway I currently possess. If only it weren't controlled by the 'True Creator,' it would be perfect for either selling it or using it to train my own subordinates."
"Unfortunately, with the existence of a 'true creator,' this path will automatically turn you into a madman once you reach Sequence 8."
"
"Even if someone acts perfectly normal most of the time, they are definitely a hidden madman."
He mumbled something under his breath for a while, and when he felt he had recovered enough, he left the gray fog.
Ten minutes later, as Klein was hesitating whether to make himself a cup of coffee or black tea, he suddenly turned his head as if he had a premonition.
Suddenly, a layer of eerie blue light enveloped the bay window next to the restaurant, and then, Cyril leaped out from behind it.
After a moment of silence, Klein spoke up: "If you choose to knock, I will open the door."
"Have you ever seen an 'apprentice' who obediently knocks on the door?" Sirion then asked in return.
Klein:
"I haven't met any of the other 'apprentices' besides you, but from you I can roughly tell what their style and personality are like."
After a brief pause, he changed the subject: "I'd like to borrow some magical items from you; I lack powerful weapons."
"Just for this?" Cyril asked, somewhat surprised, but nodded nonetheless.
"Sure, would you like to borrow the 'Peacekeeper's Ring' or the Inquisitor's Ring?"
Klein: "Borrow them all."
Cyril raised an eyebrow slightly, then asked curiously, "Who are you going to kill?"
Klein: "A damn man!"
"Fine," Sirion said, pursing his lips.
Seeing that Klein didn't seem too keen on answering the question, he didn't press the matter further. Instead, he took out two folded sheets of drawing paper from his pocket, unfolded them in his hand, and then reached his hand inside.
To Klein's astonishment, he pulled a bright silver pistol and a brass interrogator's ring from the drawing paper.
Klein didn't immediately take the two magical items; instead, he curiously stared at the blank drawing paper spread out in his hand.
Whether through spiritual vision or spiritual intuition, in his perception, the two sheets of paper in Sirion's hand were just ordinary drawings.
He asked with some curiosity, "Can doors on a drawing paper also be 'opened'?"
Cyril: "Theoretically, it's possible, but I'm not opening a 'door' on the drawing paper; I'm opening the drawing paper itself."
"There's a concept called 'the world within a painting,' and I used my abilities to communicate with this 'world within a painting' to store items that are inconvenient to carry around."
"The 'apprentice' system is really convenient." Klein exclaimed, reaching out to take the two magical items.
He then explained:
"I'm investigating a past enemy and have recently discovered some clues, but he has other extraordinary individuals around him, so killing him might be difficult and even quite dangerous."
"I'm unsure of the level of danger, so I'm hesitant to ask for your help."
"What I can offer in return is... a complete Sequence 4 potion recipe."
Cyril's eyes lit up slightly: "You know I'm always happy to help others."
He didn't actually have much desire for Sequence 4 potion recipes that weren't from the "Apprentice" pathway, but he had a collecting obsession with completing all twenty-two extraordinary pathways.
...This can be considered a case of the wool coming from the sheep's back. Originally, the "True Creator's" gaze was drawn by him, and now I'm using the knowledge I've seen from the "True Creator" to make a deal with him.
Muttering something to himself, Klein said in a deep voice:
"Yes, with you here, I'm at least a little more confident about evacuating safely."
"The Sequence 4 potion recipe I possess is called 'The Black Knight,' and his ascension ritual is performed without violence."
It led more than ten thousand people astray.
Cyril didn't have much to say about the ceremony itself; he was more curious about another question:
What are the criteria for judging depravity?
"Does this mean that diligent people become lazy, generous people become selfish and indifferent, sunny and cheerful people become gloomy and withdrawn, or that normal people turn into bloodthirsty and insane thugs?"
After a brief silence, Klein shook his head: "I don't know."
He paused, then changed the subject: "Meet me outside the dockworkers' union at 4 p.m. tomorrow."
Nodding, Sirion took his leave and departed.
On the way back, he asked with some curiosity, "So, what exactly is the standard for judging depravity?"
The next second, Adam's gentle voice echoed in his heart:
"In a broad sense, degeneration is the process by which an individual gradually deviates from a positive trajectory in thought or behavior and falls into a persistent negative state."
"This encompasses a triple state: moral degeneration, spiritual decay, and behavioral anomie."
"The ritual requirement for the 'Black Knight' is the fall after entering the third state. The higher the sequence of the fallen, the more concentrated the transformation from normal to fallen in time, and the better the ritual effect."
Cyril was slightly surprised. He had only asked casually, but he hadn't expected Adam to actually listen and even give an answer.
"Most of the time, I can hear you when you ask me questions."
Adam's voice echoed in her heart. After a two-second silence, Cyril steered the conversation back on track:
"It sounds like there's no loophole in this ritual."
Adam's voice rang out: "Yes, Amon has studied it."
"Those extraordinary individuals who have chosen these three paths all share this hobby to some extent: they enjoy finding loopholes in the rules and taking shortcuts."
"The ascension ritual of the 'Black Knight' is essentially a connection between the ascendant and a large number of corrupted thoughts, serving as a temporary, stable anchor."
"And because this path itself symbolizes depravity, all thoughts imbued with depravity are most suitable."
"This can be achieved by inducing negative personalities through the 'audience,' and then replacing the personality back after the ritual. It can also allow 'thieves' of Amon's caliber to steal thoughts, deceive people's hearts, and manipulate the rules."
This sounds like something you and Amon did together.
The thought had barely crossed his mind when Adam's voice rang out again: "Yes."
"At that time, as the only orthodox church, such evil rituals were not in line with its image and were not conducive to stability, so it was natural to find ways to avoid them."
