Chapter 127: Again & Again
Chapter 127: Again & Again
Junior woke from his sleep, his hand flying to his neck.
His chest heaved. His breathing was fast and ragged.
"I died," he muttered.
He sensed around. It was his dorm room. The same soft bed. The same curtains dancing sound.
He grabbed his mobile and asked aloud,
"Tell me, what is today’s date and time?"
The screen glowed as the mobile replied,
"December 4, 6:12 AM."
Junior’s breathing quickened as he thought,
’Don’t tell me...’
He had regressed. Three hours back into the past.
To the morning before the man with the cold voice had killed him.
Junior’s mind raced. He recalled the mana disruption wave. The question of that voice. The grip around his neck.
The darkness was swallowing him whole. The man would come for him again in three hours.
He just needed to hide.
He had no intention of fighting head-on.
He was sure the person who killed him was the same one who caused the mana disruption wave.
And that person was strong. Too strong.
Junior walked out of his room.
The morning sun crept over the academy walls, its pale golden light spilling across the jogging path.
Junior’s feet fell in a steady rhythm against the gravel. He could not see the light, but he could feel its warmth on his face.
It was a small comfort.
Junior did what he usually did, morning exercises, jogging along the path, but he did not return to his dorm.
Instead, he went to the instructors’ building. He made up a story about losing his way and needing to rest.
The instructors, seeing a blind, frail boy, naturally agreed.
Junior sighed in relief as he sat in an extra room. He was safe.
He tried to enter the heavenly book plane to ask his three questions, but he wasn’t able to enter the white plane.
The golden book wasn’t responding.
But Junior’s relief did not last long.
"I do not want to waste both of our time."
A voice said from somewhere. Just like before, Junior wasn’t able to sense the mana or presence of the other party.
"So, can you please tell me your class name and your skills?"
Junior’s heart shook. It was the same voice. The same cold, calm voice. The man had found him again.
Junior gritted his teeth and asked,
"What if I say no?"
The other party let out a sigh.
"Well, I do have a skill to read the minds of the dead. If you do not mind."
Junior’s eyes widened in horror. He opened his mouth to shout,
"HEL--"
Pain spread across his neck. His senses faded. He died.
...
Junior startled awake, clutching his neck. His chest heaved. Sweat soaked through his shirt.
"I died again?"
He forced a smirk.
"Ha. Haha. So, what if you are powerful? Time is with me."
He tried to enter the heavenly book plane again. But failed once again. He cursed under his breath.
"Damn it."
His mind was over three hundred years old. He had faced celestials. He had faced the Sovereign of Eternal Flames.
But being killed twice in a row, by the same person, on the same day, sent chills down his spine.
This time, he would avoid the man at all costs.
The safest place was the training hall. There were cameras everywhere.
The man would not risk exposing himself. Junior skipped his morning routine and went straight to the hall.
For a while, nothing happened. He began to relax.
Then, suddenly, the voices of students around him rose as they talked to each other.
"What happened?"
"Why are the lights cut off?"
"Wait, even without lights, isn’t it unusually dark?"
Junior’s heart began to beat fast.
’No way, is he here?’
A soft chuckle echoed through the darkness. A mocking voice asked,
"Hey, Blindy, tell me your class name and skills."
Junior cursed out,
"Damn it."
He tried to run. A hand pressed down on his shoulder. He felt the surroundings had changed.
He was no longer in the training hall.
Junior was shocked,
"W-what?"
The voice spoke again.
"Tell me, blind guy. If you don’t, blindness will be the least of your fears."
Before Junior could respond, the voice added,
"If you lie, I will strip you naked and drop you in the middle of the girls’ dormitory."
Junior was flabbergasted.
’What is wrong with this man?’
Minutes later, he died again.
...
Junior woke again in his room.
This time, Junior ran to the forest.
The forest was dense and dark, even in the morning.
The canopy above blocked most of the sunlight, leaving only scattered patches of gold that flickered like dying embers. The air was damp, heavy with the smell of wet earth and decaying leaves.
Junior was running towards the barrier. After the previous night’s incident, three [Mythril] rankers were guarding it.
Surely, the man would not come for him there, right?
But sadly, a voice spoke from in front of him.
"Hm. You are a [Bronze] ranker. Let us do this. I will limit myself to [Iron]. Let us fight. The loser answers the winner’s questions."
Junior’s blood ran cold. It was the same voice.
Minutes later, he died once again.
---
Back in his room, Junior’s curses echoed off the walls.
"Damn it! Curse you, you lunatic psycho!"
’What is his deal? The first time, he was fierce.’
’The second time, he said, "Please."
’Third time, that bastard’s tongue, I will rip it off.’
’Fourth time, he asked me for a challenge!’
’Does that man have a screw loose?’
Junior shook his head.
’This will not do. I need a safe place. I need to reach it fast.’
The last time, he had been stopped before reaching the barrier.
This time...
He needed to go to the nearest safe zone. When he had gone to the training hall and the instructor’s dorm, that guy had taken some time before arriving.
So this time, Junior decided to go near the vice-principal’s office.
He stood up. His body was trembling, but his resolve was firm. He walked out of his room.
The man would come. But this time, Junior would be ready.
"I do not believe you have the guts to reach me in front of [Mythril] rankers."
