Chapter 45 - What Makes A Great King

*Carmela's POV*

I sat on my chair with all ears for the next thing that Alpha Jack is going to say.

"The Langstone Palace is built in the middle of the four regions, now each region has their own Alpha. I know all of us are aware of these things but I would like to explain everything in details for our New Queen and your Luna. Since today is the first time she's attending a council meeting".

Alpha Jack smiled and glanced at me. But his smile was brief and held so many emotions. The others surrounding the long table, whispered their words of approval and nod towards me. Now I am waiting with anticipation as Jack continues to speak.

"The rogues have entered from outside the territory of the East, West and South. There is only one region which is not endangered apart from us and you all know it's the North. Our biggest challenge is that the rogues camp and hides in the wilderness near our Pack! Outside the three regions but a little closer to our Kingdom who stood at the center"..

A sharp intake of breath from everyone across the table was heard. "What? How did this happened ?

His father the former King Darius, rise from his seat and immediately asked Jack a question. Jack's eyes narrowed and answered.

"It was planned by the late traitor of our pack! Without my knowledge Matias had used his connection to give way for this rogues.! And he was clever enough to used the territory of the three regions".

I gasped and quickly felt the slow bits of fear spreading through my body as realization about his words dawned on me. The rogues, Matias had been conspiring with them.

But Matias is already gone and so is Freyah, how come the rogues are still in full force hiding in the jungles. How many individuals does Matias conspired with?

With these thoughts I feared for Jack’s safety. I couldn't handle it if something bad happens to him.

"What is your propose plan King Apha Jack?

The Former King Darius asked while Queen Helen sighed in a clouded expression. The new Beta, Michael and the lead warriors are awaiting for Jack’s response.

"I plan to go out there with the warriors and make them submit to us or wage a war. The three Alphas from each region will be supporting this pursuit due to our alliance".

His father King Darius furrowed his brows and disagree.

"You cannot go to war my son! You just gotten married with no indication of an heir, what if the war won't favor us and the Moon Goddess will challenge you? There is no certainty that you will win against the rogues!

The people on the long table was silent except for Maleficus who raised his hand to say something.

"We can try to see the next battle in my vision, if King Alpha Jack has a chance to win the war. If you allow me your majesty we can do it tonight, allow me to look into it for you. And for the future of this Pack".

Alpha King Jack suddenly raised his gaze towards the old man and his light brown eyes showed a hint of hope. Oh yes we have Maleficus an ace against the future catastrophe. With his visions we are one step ahead against our enemies.

"That is a brilliant idea Maleficus, I needed that. I hoped the Moon Goddess will gave us the glimpsed of victory that we deserved".

But the former King, Darius laid back in his seat and groaned.

"Why not, I...go to this war and fight. Stay here in the Palace my son. I proposed to do it as the last duty of a King. I don't think you should go without the assurance of a successor ".

He glanced towards me and softened his expression. "I meant no offense Queen Carmela but this issue is of utmost importance to the Royal Pack".

“We all know an heir will strengthen our pack, and it will make the faith of the wolves become stronger”.

“I do understand father”.

I bit my lip and looked down, it is partially my fault for not being able to conceive until now. Am I a useless she wolf? But Maleficus says there's nothing wrong with me. I can have children, but the question is when?

"That's ridiculous father! Carmela will bear my pups when I come back. I will end victorious in the battle with the rogues, Malificus will just confirm it tonight. You don’t need to go to war instead of me”.

Jack was optimistic with his words, he is a true Alpha King in strength and perception. I adore him with all of that.

Queen mother Helen opened her mouth to speak. "Your father is right my son, it is not a promising war for the future of the Royal Pack. It is risky and you are the existing King. If you leave, this Palace would be vulnerable. I never wanted anyone of you to go into war but if this is the answer we seek to maintain the peace then you must let your father go instead of you".

It was obvious that Queen mother Helen was hurt, either of them leaving for war is bad news for her. I know she loves them both. I myself am not sure if I could bear to think about Jack not winning the planned battle.

But to send his father, I know he will never agree.

"I am supporting the decision of our Alpha King, I trust that he will come back safe. But please confirm it with our wizard's vision so that we could send you off with a peace of mind".

I almost choke on my words but that is the best thing to say. I don't want to get hysterical and stop him from leaving. He is the alpha King and it comes with many commitments and missions for the Pack. I just hoped we would all get through this in the end.

Jack turned towards me with devotion in his eyes, he knows I love him and will give my support for the sake of our pack.

"I am grateful my Queen".

He extended his right hand underneath the table and hold mine.

"My son, I wanted to see the vision and I wanted to know where is the best place I will stand in this battle. Let Maleficus do this for us tonight. The three of us including me". Former King Darius commented.

Maleficus cleared his throat and nod his head agreeing to the proposed idea of the former King. Alpha Jack eyed them back.

"I don't see any problem with that, that is a good suggestion.”

The meeting was adjourned three hours later that afternoon. With a new beta and a war coming ahead, I don't think council meetings are great. As we waited for all the members of the council to go, and only the five of us was left in the table.

It seemed that some of the emotions were just bottled inside when I glanced at Queen mother Helen and saw her sob. She looked down and avoided my eyes and that's when the former King pulled her into his arms.

“It’s alright my love, this is not the first war that we have endured. Believed in the strength of your son and me, don't let the bad thoughts dread your heart”.

I felt the hand of Alpha Jack squeezed mine again before we heard the calmed voice of his mother’s reply.

“I am sorry my love, it's been decades since the last outbreak of war that threatened our peace. I thought it would stay like this forever. I am not used that any of you, my son and my husband would put their life at a greater risk for the sake of the entire pack and for fulfilling the task from the Moon Goddess again”.

I admire how Jack’s mother changes her expression when she turned to look at me. Her hands that trembled was quickly held by the former King Darius and she looked at me with her eyes ashamed.

“I apologized Carmela dear, you don't have to see that. It was not pleasant to show a sign of weakness in this moment where we should be exhibiting our strength the most”.

“It’s alright Queen mother, I do understand.”

With a heavy sighed I looked at Jack’s eyes. His was a determined expression, his features held courage that will not be defeated by anyone against him. I am sure he will win against this war.

“Have faith in me Carmela, the Moon Goddess will bestow her power towards us. I will win this war and come back to you. Today, I promised you that”.

He took my hand that he has been holding, and brought it to his lips for a sweet peck.

I smiled and felt assured that he will not be harmed in the battle with the rogues.

Maleficus took out his black stick and place it in the table and next to it he placed a crystal ball. One that has a color of clouds inside. Then he looked towards us one by one.

“I hope everyone is ready, please I need King Alpha Jack to sit closer on my right hand and the former King Darius on my left.”

Because of the long table we have to stand up and transferred our seats following the request of the old wizard. I sat after Alpha Jack and opposite us sat his father and mother holding hands.

“Please take my right hand King Alpha Jack and my left hand former King Darius sire. Queen Carmela join hands with Queen mother Helen and let us all begin”.

We did as we were told, yearning for the biggest possibility of getting victorious in the coming war with the rogues.
